How to choose a FiveM anticheat: 12 questions to ask

How to choose a FiveM anticheat: what to ask about ban proof, per-protection responses, outages, server load and staff access before you pay for one.

Published 6 min read

A good FiveM anticheat catches cheaters, shows proof for every ban and lets you decide how hard each protection hits. It keeps working when the vendor has an outage and stays light on your server. The 12 questions below help you judge any option before you pay.

How a FiveM anticheat works, in plain words

An anticheat is a resource you add to your server, like any other script. Part of it runs on your server. Part of it runs in each player’s game while they are connected.

The server side watches what reaches your server. Shots, damage, spawned vehicles and requests for money or items all pass through it. If a player kills someone from across the map, the server can see that.

The game side looks for cheat software on the player’s machine. Think known cheat menus, executors and people editing your in-game menus. Neither side catches everything. The Cfx.re security guide says the same about server checks: they help, but they don’t prevent everything. So proof and control matter as much as detection.

Does every ban come with proof your staff can show?

Sooner or later a banned player opens a ticket and says they did nothing. Your staff need something to show them. A log line that says “aimbot” rarely ends the argument.

Ask what evidence comes with a ban. A screenshot from the moment of detection is the easiest thing to show a player. Then ask who takes it. If the anticheat needs a separate screenshot resource, that is one more script to install and keep working. Also ask where the evidence is stored and how long staff can open it.

Daddy Shield takes the screenshot itself on every ban, so the proof is already on the case when the appeal arrives.

Can you choose watch, block, kick or ban for each protection?

Some protections are safe to run strict from day one. Others need tuning for your server. A drift server and a roleplay server see very different speeds and damage.

Look for a response you can set per protection. Watch only logs the detection and touches nobody. Block stops the action. Kick removes the player, and ban keeps them out. With that control you can start a new protection on watch only, read a week of detections, then raise it.

How to set anticheat rules without false bans

What happens when the vendor’s servers go down?

Most anticheats talk to the vendor’s servers for bans and settings. Every online service has outages now and then. Ask what happens to your bans during one.

The answer you want: banned players stay banned, because your server keeps its own copy of the ban list. Detections wait on your server and show up in the panel later. If an outage lets banned players back in, cheaters only need to wait for the next one.

Will it slow your server? How to test before you pay

Every resource costs some server time. Be careful with speed claims that come without numbers from a real server. Better still, measure it yourself.

FiveM has a built-in profiler that works on the server and in the game. Record one profile with the anticheat running and one without it, at similar player counts. Then compare the two. Our lag guide walks through every step.

Also ask if you can switch off protections you don’t need. Fewer active checks means less work for your server.

Does it fit your framework and inventory?

Money, jobs and items live in your framework and inventory. An anticheat that can’t read them can’t tell a real purchase from a fake trigger. Ask which frameworks it supports, such as Qbox, ESX or QBCore. Ask how inventory checks work and whether it needs a database.

Ask about the game version too. If you plan to move to GTA V Enhanced, check whether the anticheat supports it today or only plans to.

Can a cheater or a staff member switch it off?

Cheaters try to stop the anticheat inside their own game. A good anticheat counts that attempt as a detection.

Staff are the quieter risk. In txAdmin, the commands.resources permission lets an admin start and stop resources. The console.write permission lets them send console commands. Give those only to people you would trust with the whole server.

Then ask the vendor where settings change. If they only change from a panel with staff roles and a change history, a moderator can’t quietly turn protections off.

Licence terms, test servers and refunds: the small print

  • How many servers one licence covers, and whether a test server is included.
  • Whether you pay monthly, for several months at once or one time.
  • How refunds work, and how many days you have to ask.
  • Whether a ban covers all your servers or only the one that issued it.

One more check. The Cfx.re resource FAQ allows anticheat resources, but it lists global ban lists as disallowed. Cfx says it has no way to verify the quality of every anticheat. A ban list shared between servers you own is a different case. Ask the vendor exactly where a ban applies.

12 questions to send any anticheat vendor

  • What proof comes with a ban, and who captures it?
  • Where is the evidence stored, and for how long?
  • Can I set watch only, block, kick or ban for each protection?
  • Can my staff lift a ban from the panel?
  • Do bans keep working if your servers are offline?
  • How can I measure the anticheat’s cost on my own server?
  • Can I switch off protections I don’t need?
  • Which frameworks and inventories do you support?
  • Do I need a database or any other extra resource?
  • What happens when someone tries to stop the anticheat?
  • Where do settings change, and who on my staff can change them?
  • What does the licence cover, and how long is the refund window?

Send the same list to every vendor you are considering. Vague answers tell you as much as clear ones.

FAQ

Is there one best FiveM anticheat? The best one is the one that fits your server, your staff and your budget. Use the questions above, then test it with your own players.

Are anticheat resources allowed on FiveM? Yes. The Cfx.re resource FAQ says you are free to use anticheat resources, as long as they stay within the terms.

Does FiveM already have an anticheat? Cfx.re has its own anticheat team, and its security guide still asks server owners to check events on the server. Our guide explains what each side covers.

Does FiveM have an anticheat?

Can I try one before I commit? Ask about trials and the refund window. Daddy Shield has a 7-day refund on the first payment and plans from €19.99 a month on 6 months. Servers averaging 128+ players can apply for a free 3-day trial.
